Window Button Order

I changed the button order of my window buttons after seeing it on Aarons laptop.

New Window Button Order with Close alone on the right

Nice stuff. So far I am very comfortable with it. It totaly fits my way of working with windows.

I maximized 2 times in the last 3 days. I can not count how often I closed a window. Having the close button alone on the right side, where I am looking for it since windows 3.1, is just perfect.

I like it. Looks a lot like WindowMaker’s button layout, which has only two buttons — the close button on the right and a minimize button on the left.

I think that it might suit you, but for KDE as whole, it is easier to use the Suse 10.0 solution: to separate a bit the maximize and close buttons. Becuase most of us are used to have those buttons there, and because it’s easier having all buttons relatively close to each other. YMMV =).

This layout is functionally identical to the old Mac OS pre OSX. Only, it’s reversed. Don’t see what the big deal is really - I’ve had the mirror image of this (close on left, others on right) for quite some time. And yes, I do find that having close by itself helps a lot.

Troy, the big thing is that “usability” people try to copy Apple on this all the time. I tried Apples button order for some weeks and it felt wrong all the time. Might be different for long year Apple users, but face it, this is not what 95% of the world is using. The rest of the world has close on the right. After having close on the right for 10 years I really wonder why we have to copy Apple on this. When you mirror this setup it is no longer the same for 95% of the computer using world, since for us the most clicked option on a window decoration (and all other destructive operations like Close, Cancel, … ) is on the right and not the opposite corner of the screen.

About button order, i have especially created a thread about disposition in general for right-handed.

You can find it here: http://amarok.kde.org/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,57/func,view/id,8029/catid,9/ It’s not just focused on amarok but having posted the same notice on kde-forum and having no responses i tried a more dynamiK forum. :) I think, here, with a closer contact with dev i would have a better feedback.

Please let me know what d’ya think.

    best regards
